DO YOU REMEMBER...?
Do you remember any of these things?
A good laugh for the day.
SOME OF YOU WON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT THIS IS TALKING ABOUT..... SO YOU'LL HAVE TO ASK THOSE OF US WHO READ THIS AND SMILED ABOUT A TIME GONE BY.......

Stroll with me.... Close your eyes ... and go back ... before the Internet ... before bombings, aids, herpes before semiautomatics and crack ... before SEGA or
Super Nintendo ... way back!
I'm talking about sitting on the curb, sitting on the stoop...about hide-and-go-seek; Simon says and red-light-green-light. Lunch boxes with a thermos ... chocolate milk, going home for lunch, penny candy from the store, hopscotch, butterscotch, skates with keys, jacks and Cracker Jacks, hula hoops and sunflower seeds, wax
lips and mustaches, Mary Jane's, saddle shoes and Coke bottles with the names of
cities on the bottom.

Green Stamps
Remember when it took five minutes for the TV to warm up (and there were no remote controls.)
When nearly everyone's Mom was at home when the kids
arrived home from school.
When nobody owned a purebred dog. When a quarter was
a decent allowance.
When you'd reach into a muddy gutter
for a penny.
When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces.

Metal ice cubes trays with levers
When all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done everyday and wore high heels.
Beany & Cecil
Remember running through the sprinkler, circle pins, bobby pins, Mickey Mouse Club, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Kookla, Fran and Ollie, Spin and Marty...Dick Clark's American Bandstand ... all in black and white and your Mom made you turn it off when a storm came.
When around the corner seemed far away, and going downtown seemed like going somewhere.
Climbing trees, making forts, backyard shows, lemonade stands, cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, staring at clouds, jumping on the bed, pillow fights, ribbon candy, angel hair on the Christmas tree, Jackie Gleason, white gloves, walking to the movie theater, running till you were
out of breath, laughing so hard that your stomach
hurt
...remember that?

Roller Skate Keys
Not stepping on a crack or you'd break your mother's back ...
paper-chains at Christmas, silhouettes of Lincoln and Washington,
the smells of school, of paste and Evening in Paris.
What about the girl who dotted her i's with hearts? (that was before
that stupid smiley face)! The Stroll, popcorn balls and sock hops?

Cork Pop Guns
Remember when there were just two
types of sneakers for girls and boys - Keds and PF Flyers, and the only time you wore them at school was for gym. And the girls had those ugly gym uniforms.
When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and
gas pumped, without asking -- all for free -- every time!
And, you didn't pay for air either, and you got trading stamps
to boot!

Marlin Perkins
When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents.
When the worst thing you could do at school was flunk
a test or chew gum. And the prom was in the gym or the lunchroom and
you danced to a real orchestra.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed -- and did!

Drive-in Movies
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home. Basically, we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and
grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was so much greater than the threat.
Remember when a '57 Chevy was everyone's dream car -- used to cruise, peel out, lay rubber, scratch off or watch the submarine
races?
When people went steady; and girls wore a class ring with an inch of wrapped Band-Aids, dental floss, or yarn coated with pastelfrost nail polish
so it would fit their finger.

Drive-In Restaurants
When no one ever asked where the car keys were because
they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the car
and house doors were never locked!
Remember lying on your back on the
grass with your friends and saying things like "That cloud looks like a..."
And playing baseball with no adults needed to enforce the rules of the game.
Remember when stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals, because no one had yet tried to poison
a perfect stranger.

So send this on to someone who can
still remember Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Laurel and Hardy, Howdy Doody and
The Peanut Gallery, The Lone Ranger and Tonto, The Shadow Knows, Nellie Belle, Roy and Dale, Trigger and Buttermilk... As well as the sound of a real mower on Saturday morning, and Summers filled with bike rides, baseball games, bowling, visits to the pool ... and eating Kool- Aid powder with sugar from the palm of your hand.
There, didn't that feel
good? Just to lean back and say: "Yeah...I

Here's to
US!!!!
No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
WE ARE AWESOME !!!!
OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!
To Those of Us Born 1930 - 1979
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorders
First, we survived being born to
mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep
on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles,
locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on
our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no
car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags,
bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on
a warm day was always a special treat.

Tinker Toys
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this. We ate cupcakes,
white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And, we weren't overweight.. WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning
and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them
down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

Erector Sets
We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones,
no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these
accidents. We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

Lincoln Logs
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen,
we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke
the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some
of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them...
CONGRATULATIONS !

5 cent pack Baseball Cards
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers
and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?
